Willie Marcel Shannon was executed in Texas on 8 November 2006. He was sentenced to death in 1993 for the murder of Benjamin Garza during a carjacking in Houston in July 1992.

The US Supreme Court dismissed the final appeal on 8 November, and the Governor of Texas did not intervene.

In his final statement before being killed, Willie Shannon reiterated that the shooting of Benjamin Garza had been unintentional.

Willie Shannon became the 24th person to be executed in Texas this year, and the 51st nationwide. There have now been 1,055 people put to death in the USA since judicial killing resumed there in 1977. Texas accounts for 379 of these executions.
